451 Research Report: Cloud, Connectivity and Colocation in Germany

Organisations across Germany are transforming their IT architectures to achieve greater business agility, financial efficacy and to introduce technologies that will help drive better customer experience and business value. Not all, however, believe they have access to the right mix of service providers and suitable data centre infrastructure to reach their full potential. Many say they face other challenges that are stopping them from progressing as fast as their peers in other markets, such as the US and UK. Many say they are challenged by strict attitudes to data protection and Germany’s strong focus on security – admirable qualities inherent to the business environment in Germany, but the concerns they foster can also dampen the attitude to technological change. Similarly, adoption of cloud and other services has been hindered by a perceived lack of suitable options for German-headquartered companies, many of which, we have found, are located away from the service or data centre hubs that have sprung up across the country. This is despite Germany having one of the most mature markets for hosting and data centre services in Europe.
